Mr. Joshua Wine

Director of Bands, AJHS

Joshua Wine is currently the Director of Bands and Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Auburn Junior High School in Auburn, Alabama, where he conducts and oversees three concert bands, percussion methods class, jazz band, music study club, and teaches music appreciation. Furthermore, Mr. Wine assists with the instruction of the award-winning Auburn High School Marching Band as an Assistant Director. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Wine serves as Assistant Minister of Music/Orchestra Director at Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn, and Conductor & Music Director for the East Alabama Community Band, an all-adult band serving the Auburn-Opelika area. Mr. Wine also serves as the South-Central District Co-Chair for the Alabama Orchestra Association.

A native of Wetumpka, Alabama, Mr. Wine earned his undergraduate degree in Music Education from Troy University, where he served as a section leader and drum major for the renowned “Sound of the South” Marching Band and participated in a myriad of different instrumental and vocal ensembles. 
He additionally earned his Master’s degree in Music Education from Auburn University. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in Music Education from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS. 

Mr. Wine continues to be an active band, leadership, brass, and drum major clinician/adjudicator. Mr. Wine’s past and present professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, National Band Association, Alabama Music Education Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, American Musicological Society, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is a recipient of the Class Act Award for Teaching from WSFA News,  a multiple-time recipient of the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence, and was selected as the 2024-2025 Auburn Junior High School Teacher of the Year. 

The Auburn Junior High School Wind Symphony, under the baton of Mr. Wine, most recently performed as a featured ensemble at the 2023 Alabama Music Educators Association Conference in Birmingham, and in 2024, the Wind Symphony was a featured performer at the CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference in Memphis and the Music For All Southeastern Concert Band Festival in Atlanta. 

 

Mr. Wine is a regular presenter at the Alabama Music Educators Association State In-Service Conference. Some of his clinics have included:

  • 2015: "The Quickening Art: Emotion and Pedagogy in the Performance Class" - offered strategies for music educators in all forms of performance classes to teach the emotional content of music authentically and meaningfully, while maintaining professionalism and responsibility.

  • 2016: "Finding Notes Among the Notes: Being the Catalyst for Cross-Curricular Teaching and Integration of Music in Your School"

  • 2021: "Bach to the Future: Connecting with Secondary Performers using Historical Musicology"

  • 2025: Top Five Things I Wish I’d Known Before My First Year of Teaching (as a panelist)


Mr. Wine has served as a guest conductor/clinician throughout the Southeast, including various District Honor Bands, Auburn University Summer Band Camps, Auburn University Middle School Honor Band, and the Southeastern U.S. Middle School Honor Bands and Clinic. 

 

Mr. Wine lives in Auburn with his wife Haley, twin sons: Anderson (Andy) and Lincoln, and daughters Emerson (Emmy) and Lottie.
